Data Center Virtualization

The first path is the data center virtualization track. Within the data center virtualization track, the main product is vSphere. You should understand how you can design the vSphere solution for customers in day zero and day one scenarios. Moreover, You need design knowledge, installation knowledge, and knowledge of how to configure the vCenter server by deploying the virtual machine and configuring the cluster. Data Center Virtualization has 6 products;

Network Virtualization

The second one is the network virtualization track. Data center virtualization is more about server virtualization, while network virtualization is more about the network layer. In server virtualization, most of the hardware components are virtualized.

The main product name within a cloud management automation track is ARIA Automation. Using ARIA automation, you can automate our data center virtualization components, network virtualization, and storage virtualization. Most IT infrastructure activities can be automated using ARIA automation from day one.

Cloud Management and Automation (CMA) has 4 products;

Application Modernization

Data Center Virtualization Track


The basic certification is a technical associate within a data center virtualization track. However, the initial VMware recommendation is generally to attend training at the beginning. Once you attend the training, you are eligible to write the VCTA exam. And finally, once you pass, they will give you a VCTA certification badge. After that, you will get some VMware VCTA experience and be eligible to write for your next-level certification, VCP.

For the VCP, training is required. If you notice, there is no requirement for VCTA. Without training, you can write VCTA. However, for the VCP, training is a must. If you do not have any training experience, you should have trained first. Only then are you eligible to write for the VCP certification. However, that will be enough if you have hands-on experience with daily tasks. Otherwise, you have to complete the training first. Then, you can take the VCP exam.

Advanced Skills

Another recommended course is to help VCPA professionals gain advanced skills. You must also attend some VMware design workshops to get a full picture of advanced professional knowledge. Within a week, you have two exams. One is related to deployment, and the other is related to design. Deploy means it’s more on the implementation side. Design refers to how you can prepare a solution.

If you do these two certifications, you will get two different certification badge

  • VCAP-DCV Deploy
  • CAP-DCV Design.

VMware also provides an additional badge when you complete these two certifications called VMware Certified Implementation Expert.

Once you have an implementation expert certificate, you are eligible to apply for a VCDX certification. You have to submit the original design.
